Falmouth, Ky.
Majestic vistas will intensify a "very abrupt" parcel of land in Kincaid Lake State Park, which will become one of six golf courses in the planned Kentucky State Golf Trail.
"We have 350 acres, but it is so steep it is difficult to get 18 smart holes on it," said golf course architect Lester George of Richmond, Va. To that end, George and his team are assessing neighboring properties to purchase as a link to the course. George was chosen in part because his Forest Hills Golf & Resort course, atop a mountain in Japan, earned him recognition for overcoming topographical obstacles.
"We will design the course for daily-fee play," George said, "with four sets of tees and beginners in mind. The state does not want it to be brutally hard, but rather fun, well maintained and pretty." With that challenge, George has created a course with very few uphill shots.
The beauty factor should be easy, George said, noting the course will sit 250 feet above the 150-acre Kincaid Lake and offer panoramic views.
Falmouth, located 45 minutes outside of Cincinnati, Ohio, was a victim of the 1996 Ohio flood, which buried the community under eight feet of water. The course development could be an important aspect to the area's economic recovery from those floods.
The park has currently harbors camping, hiking, swimming and boating recreations.
The golf course is in the preliminary routing stages.
