The Country Club of Virginia has selected Lester George to perform renovations on two of its three golf courses. The Club's Tuckahoe Creek Course, originally designed by Joe Lee, has recently undergone a complete bunker and tee renovation, designed and administered by George. The response from the club was so positive that they retained George to execute similar renovations to the Club's Westhampton Golf Course, originally designed in 1908 by Herbert Barker and renovated in 1921 by Donald Ross.

Bryce Powell, Green Committee Chairman for the Club says, "The feedback from the membership has been outstanding, and the work performed by Lester exceeded our highest expectations." Mark Silva, Superintendent at The Country Club of Virginia, added that, "The benefit of this project is 100% due to Lester's efforts. He went over and above his commitment to us with the time he spent on the project. We have achieved a balance between maintenance and playability issues. Both the members and the superintendent win with these renovations. This is the first time I have seen an architect make both factors work."

The bunkering on the Tuckahoe Creek Course at The Country Club of Virginia was reduced from 205,000 square feet to 130,000 square feet. No bunker has remained the same, and they are all now in proper scale with their surroundings. George also increased the teeing areas by 40,000 square feet, allowing for more flexibility in play and more options for seniors and women. George explains, "We have significantly improved the strategy of the golf course, without drastically altering or changing the degree of difficulty for the better player. Most players will find the course less intimidating, and better players will not find the strategy diluted." Construction has been completed on this course, and it is now open for play.
